Hi everyone, Alexandra the Toy Wonder here! The other day, Lisa the Toys Whiz and I were talking about our favourite holiday traditions, and both of us have very fond memories of playing board games with our families! So, I thought it would be fun to put together a list of Mastermind’s our top Family Games for the Holidays! I’ve included games for younger kids, for older kids and for the whole family. I’ve got active games, nerve-wracking games and few quiet ones thrown in the mix. Let’s begin…
Poppin’ Puzzlers ($24.95)
Grab some warm cookies and a glass of cold milk and settle in for a game of Poppin’ Puzzlers! A two player game for ages 5 and up, Poppin’ Puzzlers is pure excitement and adrenaline as you race to fit the pieces in their places before the board POPS! And win or lose, nothing is more fun than seeing the pieces go flying!
Kids on Stage ($18.95)
Get practicing for those Holiday pageants! Kids on Stage is a multiple award winning game similar to charades, that will have the whole family in stitches.
Nowhere To Go ($19.95. Ages 8+)
Nowhere To Go is the perfect game to play with that cousin or aunt or grandparent that you haven’t seen in a while. It’s a two-player game, set in the world of spies, where you simultaneously try to trap your opponent while outrunning them.
Morphology ($24.95, Ages 13+)
Are your teenagers “too old” for board games? Morphology will have them quickly changing their minds. This game tests both your cleverness and your creativity, while you try to “draw” out words for the others players to guess.
Honeycomb ($22.95, Ages 4+)
I don’t know what it is, but when blocks, cards or dominoes fall down, kids can’t help but be delighted. Enter, Honeycomb! A Jenga-like game, you must remove pieces of the comb without causing the bee to tumble. Another bonus? Honeycomb doesn’t take too long to play, so it’s easy to fit in a game before that big family dinner.
Pentago ($24.95, Ages 6+)
Warm up by the fire with this twisted take on tic-tac-toe. A two-player game for ages 6 and up, Pentago takes seconds to learn, and years to master. This game is also conveniently portable for those long holiday road trips.
Sneaky Snacky Squirrel ($21.95, Ages 3+)
You know winter is coming when you see the squirrels busy hiding their food, and in Sneaky Snacky Squirrel, your little ones get to help the little critters do just that.
Catan Jr ($34.95, Ages 6+)
Catan Junior has all the elements that makes Settlers of Catan so exciting, but is also accessible to younger players. Plus, it has pirates! What is a holiday without a few pirates running around?!
Forbidden Island ($19.95)
Annnddd… our number one Family Game for the holidays is Forbidden Island! This is the best game for bringing the whole family together, because in this game, you all have to work together to win. Set on a dangerous sinking island, this game changes every time you play, keeping it fresh and exciting. (Only availble in-store at this time)
Did your favourites make the list? Whatever board game you choose, they are great at bringing people together and always make fantastic gifts. I hope you enjoyed our first ever count down! Thanks for reading and watching, and happy holidays!
